South America for Corporate Incentive Travel: Colombia, Brazil & Beyond

The continent that shakes up all your expectations, and why corporate travel programmes that are genuinely forward-thinking are currently looking South.

South America is a continent that changes people, and I don’t mean just in those superficial, tourist-brochure ways . What I mean is that spending time in Cartagena, Rio de Janeiro, the Patagonian steppe or the Sacred Valley of Peru will genuinely shift your perspective in a way that most other travel destinations just can’t come close to matching. For corporate incentive programmes which are all about giving your people a travel experience that is genuinely life-changing, South America is not some left-field choice, it’s actually the most powerful choice out there for the right groups

At Uniqueworld, our South America network covers Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile & Ecuador. Over the past three years, corporate programmes in the region have really taken off as planners try to come up with something genuinely new and interesting for groups that have, as one of our clients put it,” already been everywhere else.” Here’s what the continent offers, and what you need to know to put together a programme that delivers on its incredible promise.

  • We cover 6 South American countries within our Uniqueworld network.
  • You can get to Bogotá or São Paulo in a direct flight of around 11 hours from London.
  • 19 UNESCO World Heritage sites spread across Colombia, Brazil, Peru & Argentina combined.

THE MUST-SEE DESTINATIONS DRIVING SOUTH AMERICAN INCENTIVE TRAVEL

Colombia: Cartagena – Caribbean Paradise

Cartagena’s walled city in Colombia is the real deal. This UNESCO World Heritage Site of colonial architecture is a feast for the eyes & one of the most visually stunning backdrops for corporate events anywhere in the Americas. Booking out a boutique hotel within the old city walls, having a private rooftop dinner, and taking a boat trip out onto the Caribbean are just some of the ways you can create a programme that seriously lives up to the hype. Colombia’s story of transformation also makes it a really compelling context for leadership programmes focusing on how to bounce back from adversity.

Brazil: Rio de Janeiro – Pure Energy

Few cities on this planet have the unique mix of natural drama & human energy that you find in Rio. The Christ the Redeemer statue, the Sugarloaf, Ipanema, all the samba schools and a first-rate hotel infrastructure all come together in a destination that reliably knocks even the most seasoned travellers off their feet. Rio’s got a pulse all its own, and there’s nowhere else quite like it when it comes to corporate events.

Argentina: Buenos Aires – A Taste of Europe

Buenos Aires has the architecture & café culture of Paris, the steak & wine of Texas and the tango of nowheres else on earth. For groups looking for a South American destination with the infrastructure & confidence of a major European city, Buenos Aires is the obvious choice.

Peru – Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu : Heritage & Wonder

The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu represent one of those genuinely once in a lifetime experiences you can have with your corporate incentive programme. Arriving at Machu Picchu at dawn, before all the day-trippers, with a private archaeologist as a guide and a breakfast setup on the Inca terraces – this is the kind of thing that will redefine what you think incentive travel should be all about for your delegates.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES THAT DEFINE SOUTH AMERICAN CORPORATE PROGRAMMES

Private Tango Lesson & Milonga Dinner, Buenos Aires

A private tango lesson with pro dancers in a 1920s milonga hall, followed by a dinner with a live orchestra and an open dance floor. Buenos Aires is the only place on the planet where this experience comes with genuine cultural weight & produces a night that your delegates will be talking about for the rest of their careers.

Sunrise Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley

Exclusive early-access entry to Machu Picchu with a private archaeologist guide, arriving before the general public gets in. Breakfast on the Inca terraces as the morning sun rises over the valley below. It’s an experience that simply can’t be replicated, isn’t something you can easily book or just swap out for something else.

Amazon Rainforest Lodge, Brazil

A private Amazon river journey with luxury eco-lodge accommodation, guided wildlife walks, night canoeing & visits to indigenous communities. If your goal is to create a genuine connection between your delegates and the natural world and all the perspective shifts that come with it, the Amazon is simply unbeatable.

Estancia Experience, Argentine Pampas

A private gaucho ranch stay on the open grasslands just outside Buenos Aires, complete with horsemanship demos, traditional asado cooked on an open fire, folk music & dance. This is Argentine culture at its most authentic, and for groups who want something that stands head & shoulders above average corporate hospitality – it’s one of our top-rated experiences in South America.

Planning Note

South America’s one of those places where you really have to have your act together if you want to enjoy it. You can’t just rock up and hope for the best – there are permits to sort out, and places like Machu Picchu book up months in advance if you want a crack at the early bird slots. And to top it all off, the corporate groups are getting in on the action too, so the sooner you start planning your 2026 or 2027 trip, the better.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR SOUTH AMERICAN GROUPS

Practical Considerations For Your South American Adventure

Altitude

If you’re heading to Peru or parts of Colombia, you’ve got to factor in the altitude – it’s a real game-changer for some people. A pro DMC will make sure they’ve built in enough time for your crew to acclimatise, get the medical support in place, and even sort out some altitude meds for the worst cases.

Seasonality

Just to keep things interesting, South America’s seasons are the opposite of what you’re used to in the Northern Hemisphere. So if you’re off to Rio and the northeast of Brazil, May to September’s your best bet. But if Argentina’s on your list, then March to May and September to November are the way to go. And Peru? That’s April to October all the way. Your DMC will know all this stuff like the back of their hand, and make sure they tailor their recommendations to the time of year.

Safety – The Lowdown

Now people might tell you that Colombia and Brazil are dodgy, but the reality is that if you’re running a well-planned corporate programme in a safe, managed environment, you’re basically golden. Places like Cartagena’s walled city or Rio’s Zona Sul are as safe as houses for the right sorts of groups – you just need to work with a DMC that’s got the lowdown on the local scene.
