Abreu DMC with Uniqueworld recently organised an amazing trip to Madeira – many thanks to American Express, Opus Create Ltd, Active International, Cassis Travel Services Limited, Clockwise Events, Venues Event Management and Ci Events – FCM Travel Solutions for joining us!
We took an Airbus towards Funchal on Thursday and arrived in Madeira by 5.45pm, welcomed by Abreu’s local office ground staff. Hi to Christine, Guida, Paula, Carlos and of course Maria!
A private coach brought us to the delightful and modern Vine Hotel (great for exclusive use) where we had the chance to try the spa and the panoramic pool before leaving around 8.00pm to Funchal’s old town restaurant “Armazém do Sal”, a 170-year-old converted salt factory that is today one of the most popular venues in Funchal.
After a night and a breakfast in the Vine Hotel, we started our day visiting the local market where the ladies dressed in typical costumes sell the exotic flowers. After that, we had the privilege to visit the famous Madeira Wine Company and taste its exquisite and unique wine. Lunch took place at “Quinta das Cruzes”, a restaurant set in the beautiful gardens of the museum and ancient house of the Discoverer of Madeira Islands, João Gonçalves Zarco. After lunch, the rest of the day was leisure.
We left the Vine Hotel at 7.30pm to visit and to have dinner at the excellent and modern Reid’s Palace, an Orient Express Deluxe hotel set on cliff tops overlooking the bay of Funchal and the Atlantic. A top place for Incentives, more so for the well travelled client.
A good night of sleep and a breakfast served at Hotel Pestana Casino Park later, we headed in direction of Laurisilva Forest. How could we leave Madeira without visiting this worldwide trust of humanity? Boarding in Jeep Safaris, we reached its highest mountains, whilst listening to the sound of birds and cascades. Once there, there were just two things to do: enjoy and relax. The photo above is of us at Cape Girão – one of the highest Capes in the world!
Down the hill, we arrived in the charming village of Câmara de Lobos where we had a delicious lunch in a local fish restaurant. In order to digest, we returned to Funchal by speedboat, meeting on our way new companions, such as…dolphins and whales popping up right next to us! To finish in style on this exciting Saturday, we had dinner at at “Forte de São Tiago”, which once was a fortress defending the bay of Funchal from Pirate attacks. A special fireworks display made the completed evening and trip perfectly!
After an early breakfast at the Vine Hotel, we headed in direction of Madeira International Airport where we took the 11.45am flight back to London.
Back, with great memories.
