China
China is a big country in eastern Asia, bordering Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Mongolia and North Korea. Its capital is Beijing. China has the world’s largest population. It consists of 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing), and two special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau).
Its history starts with one of the world’s earliest civilizations, and can be explored all around the country, with lots of monuments and artefacts, such as the Great Wall, its many old towns, or its Buddhist cave statues.
The country is very diverse, geographically as well as culturally, from the marvellous scenery of Jiuzhaigou to the breath taking Forbidden City in Beijing. China has the world’s third largest number of Unesco World Heritage Sites, after Italy and Spain. It is the third most visited country in the world.
