Valencia is a port city on Spain’s south eastern coast, its port being the busiest container port on the Mediterranean Sea. It lies near the Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake. Valencia is the capital of the province of Old Kingdom of Valencia. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain, with lots of ancient monuments, views, and cultural attractions, which make Valencia one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. The University of Valencia is one of the oldest surviving universities in Spain.
Valencia is famous for its local Falles festival in March, its traditional Valencian ceramics, its traditional dresses, and La Tomatina: an annual tomato fight in August. It has futuristic buildings, a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. It is the birthplace of paella, and is known for the architectural project the City of Arts and Sciences.
