Mostly known for its big red cathedral and for its various European institutions, this city is the second most popular tourist city of France, after Paris. It is the official seat of the European Parliament. The cathedral is the second most visited French cathedral after Notre Dame de Paris and has the highest cathedral tower of France. The historic quarter, called Grande Ile, looks as if it comes straight out of a fairy tale. It was the first city centre that’s entirely been classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site. In the European district, you can find the Council of Europe's seat, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Parliament and many other famous European buildings. Being this touristic, Strasbourg has of course many museums, all of which have free entrance every first Sunday of the month. Some museums worth a visit are the Musée de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame, the Palais Rohan, the Musée Alsacien, the Musée Historique and the Musée Zoologique. In December, the Strasbourg Christmas market is the oldest and biggest historic Christmas market of Europe.
