California is the most populous state in the US, located on its western coast. It is bordered by the states of Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and the Mexican state of Baja California. Its capital is Sacramento, and its most populous city is Los Angeles. Despite its reputation of having a warm Mediterranean climate, its geography varies from a moist temperate rainforest in the north, to an arid desert in the south, and snowy mountains in the east. California is also the place to find the USA’s highest mountain peak: Mt Whitney.
California is a global trendsetter in popular culture, innovation, and politics, and it is the birthplace of the American film industry, the hippie counterculture, the internet, the personal computer, and many more.
As it is a large state, it has many sights to offer. In south California, you can find Disneyland, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, and the beaches of Malibu; while north California has the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley, and Sacramento.
