The event took place 2nd October 2012 at the Portuguese Ambassador’s Residence, a Porto Event for the Meetings and Intensive Industry. An awesome experience with a fresh and unique event concept allowing to present Porto, an interesting destination for any occasion.
Who was the event organised for? Oporto Convention Bureau and Turismo de Portugal approached Uniqueworld with a brief for uniqueness, creativity and quality. With excellent support from TAP Portugal we were able to present this wonderful region that really attracted the attention of all attendees.
Who attended? The event was attended by over 60 M&I buyers, and thanks to everyone who attended, the event was a success with a vast range of many companies involved. Including a public relations agency present, there was editorial coverage from Conference News Magazine, and additional participation from Association Meetings and Meetings & Incentive Travel (M&IT) Magazine. A unique and dynamic event allowed guests to taste wine complemented by exquisite food, in order to learn more of the area of Porto for golf, congresses, exhibitions, meetings and incentives.
The destination: Porto is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Europe and has a privilege location. With a cultural tradition and an architectural heritage, Porto is, at the same time, modernity and contemporary. A unique destination for meetings, events and congresses, where all guests can enjoy quality hotels, restaurants and sophisticated boutique properties.
The event purpose and time plan: Promoting Porto and Portugal to the Meetings and Incentive industry started at 4pm, the participants arrived and registered, each receiving a specific badge placing them into a group for the evening’s activities. There they could taste a white port cocktail. The workshop started with one-to-one meetings with plenty of duration time to meet a select group of hotels, resorts, venues and destination management companies (DMC). The workshop ended at 6.30pm and straightaway in another elegant room within the venue, the organisers began their presentations whilst canapés were served. Introduced by Filipe Silva, the Ambassador of Portugal, and Carlos Oliveira presented the MI Porto, and the Convention Bureau explained the concept of the new film of Porto and the north.
Congratulations to Deborah Hickling from TFI Group who was one of Five winners of accommodation and flights to PORTO!
Wine tasting and food: Afterwards, an unforgettable moment, the wine tasting game began and more canapés were served. An entertaining wine game was created to cater for all levels of wine knowledge. This event takes the form of a blind tasting, where the key objective is to identify wines without seeing their labels. The host’s career in wine began as a manager in Harrods Wine Department. With this game, participants could compare wines, perform smell tests, and discover the excellent wines of Porto whilst tasting delicious canapés and desserts.
Finally, the time came for the awards, a bottle of wine for all the winners of the wine tasting games, and amazing prizes drawn among all participants including luxury free nights and trips to Porto! Our personal favourite wine was the red – Rosa DouRosa Rossado.
Not forgetting, guests received a goody bag with official Porto wine glass by Siza Vieira, a bottle of wine and information of the region. An original and fully participated event with fine catering, amazing prizes, a truly ‘unique event‘.
